My Human Design Leadership Story
Human Design, Leadership & Me
Today, I have the honour and absolute pleasure of using my leadership experience and fusing it with the powerful insights of the Human Design System to guide others on their journey of personal and professional discovery, so they can lead in a way that it authentic and aligned with their true essence. But it wasn’t always like this. Let me take you back to 2017. I had just accepted the headship at a school recently judged as 'requires improvement' by Ofsted. Every aspect of the school needed revitalisation, and every system and process required my attention. The task ahead was immense. So, I did what any experienced leader would do: I observed, reflected, strategised, and planned. I then communicated my new vision and the milestones to the team. Creating and nurturing a new team became my top priority. Most of the individuals I chose had potential, and I knew I would have to invest in their development while simultaneously undertaking a major school improvement project. Once I positioned the right people in the right roles, we were ready to move forward. Our commitment was unwavering, and I was in awe of the dedication of this wonderful new team. They were amazing, and I felt truly blessed to work with them. Initially, I couldn't delegate responsibilities immediately. Instead, I employed a 'drip feed' approach as team members flourished in their new roles. Prioritising my strategy allowed me to gradually layer the necessary systems and processes for our improvement project. After a few years, the school was in a good place. Then, boom… the pandemic hit. The world changed, and we stepped into a new paradigm of online working, mental health challenges beyond the unknown. During the pandemic, I stumbled upon the Human Design System, a discovery that profoundly impacted my approach to leadership. As a coach already dedicated to guiding leaders, I noticed an increased demand for my services during this period. This newfound interest led me to explore Human Design, a powerful self-discovery tool that I instantly recognised as transformative for leadership development. Through Human Design, I gained a deep understanding of my intrinsic wiring, natural traits, and qualities. It illuminated how my energy operates, highlighting my strengths, limitations, potential, decision-making processes, and interactions with others. I began to see clearly where I was susceptible to external conditioning and what my overarching life theme was. This heightened self-awareness was not only enlightening for personal growth but also provided a robust framework for leadership enhancement. I started applying the principles of Human Design to leadership. I realised it could offer leaders invaluable insights into their authentic traits and qualities. This system supports the development of numerous leadership aspects, including strategic planning, effective communication, relationship-building, decision-making, delegation, fostering a positive work culture, people management, succession planning, conflict resolution, goal setting, and creating innovative teams. Ultimately, it promotes heightened self-awareness, personal growth, and overall wellbeing, making it a comprehensive tool for evolving leadership in a meaningful and impactful way. I embarked on a journey to master the Human Design System, determined to share my insights to help leaders lead with alignment and authenticity. It wasn't easy. I had to invest financially during uncertain times and was already drained from long hours leading a school. Nevertheless, I took a leap of faith, waking up at 4:30 AM daily to study. This commitment gave me a profound understanding of myself and led to life changes that aligned with my Human Design blueprint. These changes positively impacted my well-being and leadership effectiveness, preparing me for the post-pandemic era of leadership to come. The post-pandemic world seemed to have erased our progress, putting us back to square one, but this time, it was even more intense! Gradually, I introduced my team to Human Design, explaining how it could help us get back on track in a more aligned, authentic, and effective way. By leveraging the Human Design insights of my senior team and myself, we were able to re-strategize, re-energize, and revive our school community and standards. The positive transformation allowed me to take on the role of Training Centre Director while continuing my headship role, all while maintaining my wellbeing. Human Design profoundly impacted my life and leadership, and it can transform yours too. Eventually, I left to dedicate myself to helping other leaders reach their full potential through the power of coaching and Human Design.
